Vacationing in the Finger Lakes had become an annual event. Our daughter has a true love of the water and loved visiting grandma & grandpa on Seneca Lake since she was about 3 years old. The beautiful mountains, never ending wineries and breweries, kayaking, hiking, bicycling, there are just endless activities. This is where we would soon call home.
Raising Chickens
had been our hobby for many years. We love the fresh eggs and the different personalities of our chickens. We have continued raising chickens here in New York and are so happy to have a larger area to watch these ladies free range all day long. We were given some ducks last year so currently we can offer duck or chicken eggs for local pick up.
Looking for the right breed
of goats to raise, we found the most striking personalities in Nigerian Dwarf Goats. Their milk has over 6% butterfat, making it the sweetest of all goats. They are not too big to handle, at least individually. Show them love and they will love you right back.
Many choose to raise goats for the same reasons we do. They are great for making homemade treats like delicious ice cream or hand made soaps with added flowers or oils. Nigerian Dwarf Goats are loving and make great companions. If I am feeling down, I just venture outside and sit with my goats. Once they get the idea, most love to get brushed and hope you brought an apple core or maybe some mango skins. A little scratching behind the ears or along the neck is enjoyed too. Kidding season is in spring and we try to have all goats sold by summer. Send me a message if you are interested in purchasing a goat.
Raising honey Bees
and helping propagate other bees like carpenter bees, to ensure our farm and the area around us have plenty of bees to help spread the pollen around. We also get some delicious honey in the process from the honey bees. Its cute to watch the chubby little carpenter bees, as they gently buzz around the farm. We are still collecting honey and hope to have some raw honey for sale locally soon.
Misty Mornings Farm does not use pesticides anywhere on the farm. Besides delicious bugs and grass, our chickens enjoy organic grain year round. Keeping close with nature, we encourage the natural biodiversity whenever we can.
